One of the topics discussed at the AGM was the site upgrades coming for 2012 and also to refresh/update our club logo.

We discussed modernizing the logo and simplifying it with fewer colours. Part of the reason for this is that to try and get anything embroidered with our current logo, it ratchets up the cost for each colour. Also, because the logo is sorta complex, there are limitations as to how small it can be scaled for swag etc.
We'd love to get some ideas/submissions from people.

We're planning on changing the front page, adding a links page, updating the forum page & adding some features to the functionality of the site.

We could use some suggestions on what folks like on other sites they use so we can try to implement some of them here.
Please include a link to the site and which features, visuals etc. you'd like to see on here.

Ie. a like button on each post- http://www.cafehusky.com and/or a facebook 'like' button on each post/thread or at the top of the forum.......

    Or?

Some things will be simple to implement, others may be too difficult & may not fit in our budget, but we'll evaluate each idea.

    Fire away.

    Hi Brian

I can not give you a link because I don`t know how.

However I do like the way you are directed to the last post posted when you go in the forum on the Unofficial Husaberg web site. That way you do not have to scroll down the page through all of the postings to find the most current. It is a time saver that I think most people would like especially when the page is almost full.
Most people on this site are regulars and they already have read the previous replies, and or when you are discussing ideas with someone it is much quicker to see what they have to say.
    That is one idea.

Hi rick. I'm pretty sure what you are referring to is "view new posts", which this site has.

Make external links open to a new window, not the same one.

Hey Rick - as Steve mentioned, we do have a "view new posts' link here, although it's small & kinda hard to find- it's in small letters at the top of the main forums box on the main forums page. Does that do what you're referring to?
To paste a link, simply go to the site you're referring to, go to the browser bar at the top, highlight the full 'www' address by right clicking on it, click 'copy' in the drop down box that opens up, then paste it here in a post.

Not the same. In the UH site I am talking about replies to posts not new posts. When you go to the intended post you are automatically at the last reply. I will try to show you the link latter. Got to go to work NOW.

Ability to show YouTube (or any other) video clip previews within a thread.

Easy method of putting links into words or phrases. (This can be done now but it's very tedious.)

We've had submissions before to update the logo...nothing ever happened with it. It's definitely in need of modernizing.

my personal thought, after hearing some of the recent chatter is to actually consider a slight name change and improvement. "The Ontario Dual sport and offroad club" makes sense to me.....

    Excellent idea!!
You could eliminate a decade of "chatter" with one word.
Also it represents the membership as a whole more accurately. =D>

It's not quite as easy as it sounds, as it would first require a vote, then bylaw changes, filings and banking changes...business cards and other things...So, although it seems to capture what we do a bit better....is it really worth it?

I think so but then again i don't have to do the work. If we are going to change then it would best to align the name change and logo change at the same time. Do we have a lot of printed matter at this time with the Name and logo on it ?

How about we leave the club name as is.

However...perhaps we could easily and without the constitutional mess...come up with another name for the forum itself.

IMO the forum is what holds the widest attraction to people. So what if we gave the forum itself a unique name which more accurately reflects the interests and activities of most all our members? Something like the "Back Roads & Off Road" forum, (presented by the "Ontario Dual Sport Club.")

We could bring this new name itself to the "forefront" on the web pages, in advertising...etc... but still retain the club, its current constitution and operations without (I think) any muss or fuss. The URL could remain the same so people wouldn't have any problem finding the site and (I think) we could even set up another URL that incorporates the new name and if you typed it in or clicked on it that would automatically transfer you to the "old" URL and "new" site.

The web site overhaul could then reflect a new (hopefully catchy and relevant) name, logo and mandate to (perhaps) appeal to even a wider sector of Dual Sport and Off Road riders and racers from across Canada and the world....mwu...ha...ha....

It would almost be like starting over with a "clean slate" and new site...but retaining all the organization in its current form. Perhaps the best of both worlds.

I think I'd stick with dual sport and offroad forum. Those are more commonly used than backroads I think. It's also used more within our site.

No point in changing domain name or url.

Arghhh.... #-o ...go back and read my post again.

The whole point was to NOT have to change the URL, I just suggested that another could be set up if desired.

I really don't care what the ultimate name of the forum is, the point is to change the forum name without changing the club. In order to appeal to a broad spectrum of riders I think the name of it shouldn't include "Dual Sport."

This may be the best approach. It's just a matter of deciding a name for the forum then........

IMO, it should probably incorporate terms such as Adventure riding, dual sport, dirt biking, Offroad etc., as they are common search terms & well understood by folks looking this stuff........

As far as the new logo etc. it would be phased in this year & we wouldn't have to replace too much existing material unnecessarily.
