On April 30/06 is the Platinum Powersports playday and BBQ. Donald asked me to put together a dual sport ride and I agreed. We leave Platinum at 10:00AM so be there by 9:30 so you are ready and signed in by 10:00. This is the same day as the Beagle Bash trail ride and the day after the Enduro so I thought a nice Big Dog friendly ride would be good option. There will be 2 track trails and back roads but no mud or water crossings. Perfect ride for the beginner or new member as well. We will return to Platinum for a BBQ lunch at around 1:00 PM and the games will follow. There will be many other riders there as street riders are Platinum's larger customer base. Last year there was a sport bike stunt show, I'll ride my trials bike, and prizes for games so it will be worth the trip. We will have a raffle for a few prizes with the proceeds going to the OFTR. Riders for the dual sport ride must be ODSC '06 members and I'll bring membership forms if you need to sign up. It would be nice to have an estimate of the riders so drop me a PM or email to eric@allterraincycles.ca

    Update.

I have the basic route set. There will be one short (30'), shallow (~6"), rock bottom water crossing that should be no problem for any bike. I can GPS the route if needed but only in Garmin format. Should be a great day!

Don't forget to drop me a line if you intend to show up. I would like to know numbers before hand.

    .

I'll convert the route to Magellan format if you e-mail me your Garmin version.

I'm interested in this. I'd put my bike on a trailer and head up. If anyone is interested in Hamilton to go you can share the trailer with me.

Since this is posted here, I assume you'd need to be a member? Or was it started elsewhere and this is just a side posting? Gonna be an insurance nightmare I'm guessing. Not trying to be a dink, just pointing something out.

No nightmares at all Mike. If you are an ODSC member come on out, if not then no problem we will have membership forms available the day of the ride so you can sign up. How would it being a side posting change anything?
You will find Mike that the vast majority of members trailer their bike to rides as it is just too much to ride home after a long day on the trails. This ride being very big dog friendly I expect a few to ride up.

Bump, as this is being pushed down the list a fair ways with ride reports, etc.. 3 confirmed riders so far.

One other question, what does "Big Dog friendly" mean?

Miker, the term "Big Dog" might have slightly different meanings to different people but generally it is a DS bike of 650cc and larger. Some people with little else to do argue about tires, whether V-Strom's count, etc.
For this ride any DS bike will work but as the ride is the same day as the Beagle Bash trail ride I thought a more "Big Dog" oriented ride might be best, but anyone is more then welcome. I just won't be doing any tight trails, or mud. A few riders who are showing up have ridden with me here a few times and will likely break off or Pete can lead the big guys and I'll do a little more trails.
Peedee, looks like I'll have lots of free time as contract talks arn't going good and we'll likely be on strike tomorrow. Whatever works best for you in the next few days (or maybe weeks  ). I have a rough route planned and we can meet at Donald's shop.

It looks like I'll be around next weekend now, so count me in. I hope I've got my oil leak fixed around the grommet (JB Weld and some silicone) - but I'll bring some oil just in case....

If your doing some pre-riding the route I'd be interested as well, anytime in the late afternoon (after 4:30pm) if your heading out around then.

Thanks for bringing this back to the front Green Machine!
I highly doubt there will be any watercrossing as stated earlier. We checked it out the other week and it was still about 4' deep so that is gone. A few trails still had deep snow a week and a half ago but should be gone by now so the pre ride is not done. Anyone looking to help I'm thinking Thursday or Friday.

Actual ride isn't going to be too long as this is almost more of an event then a ride. At this point I think I will just lead and not have a GPS guided route as the interest is small and it makes it easier for me. Ride will be in the 3-4 hour range and will be easy for beginner riders so don't be scared off. Again no tight trails or mud. BBQ lunch and games to follow with a motoGP race etc.
Donald is prepairing for 100 bikes in total but the majority will be street riders.

Cost is free but a donation to the OFTR fund will be encouraged. I will have membership forms on hand.

I'm definitely interested in this ride and would be happy to sign up as a member.

Is there anyone heading thru the Shakespeare/Stratford area that has space on their trailer. I'd be more than happy to chip in for gas.

Else I may have to ride up.

Great, Thomas! 6:00 will leave you plenty of time, you can probably stop for a quick breakfast on the way.
Again from my first post, I would like to be riding by 10:00 as we don't want to miss much of the Playday.
I did the pre-ride today and it is approx. 150KM total. I did some exploration and had 180km on the odometer. First gas at ~70km, another at ~100 if needed. I figure with out any problems we should be able to ride it in 4-4 1/2 hours as there are no difficult trails and most of it can be ridden at a fairly quick pace. No mud holes or water crossings just minimal paved roads, a fair amount of gravel, unassumed roads and nice 2 track trails. One optional section for those who want that can easily be by-passed. Maps will be available tomorrow, no GPS needed as I'll lead the group. Until tomorrow guys and gals :p

For those who don't think you can ride all day without mud and water come on out. It will be all around us but we won't be riding though it.
