    Brian Helliwell is your Chairperson
    John B. is Route Chair
    Me looking after Skytop

All is in place ( at least from our end ) to make this ride happen for another year :D

As per last year Parker Bros. KTM Toronto will also be doing a KTM Demo Day....So all ODSC members can have a crack at a new KTM (not all models may be present) in the morning....and be like John B.....end up buying a new one.

    Times will come later
    Cost....That is the Executive decision.

You will need a ODSC membership :!: :!:
    so apply now.
Blue plated motorcycle a MUST with insurance
There will be options for some single track
Main loop will be friendly to big dogs...with knobbies (but conditions, being spring may not be friendly)
    GPS needed but not necessary

Will there be more information available soon? I plan to join you on this ride, but need a few more details, like where to meet, what time, expected length/difficulty of ride, etc. I know it is still almost two months away, but I'm really looking forward to this already!

More info will come as things evolve

    Date April 22nd '07
Start will be at Skytop...west of Port Perry...map will follow
Sart time likely 11am....with KTM demo rides happenning from 9am on.
Now all this could change if the SNOW and winter weather sticks around till May

Degree of difficulty will depend on conditions unless you don't mind tarmac :) again weather dependent...so stay tuned as event draws near.
John will put the route together and hopefully we have a chance to ride it prior to the event so we can define the difficulty level (options may be made around the nasty stuff)

I have the route already BUT there is a LOT of snow this year. As Richard said, we might have to miss out some of the good bits as they might be still packed in with snow. We will definately try and ride all of it the week before and make decisions then.

If you are up to pushing through a few feet of snow, I have a darn good idea where to find it!

This pic is of Al Reesor on the 05 SB pre-ride. Pre-riding this is soooo much fun!

    Never done this one before

Would this ride be more suited to a dr350 than a kdx220? Both are blue plated and insured...

    Cheers!

The DR350 would probably be the better choice. Just make sure it has knobbies.

I'm planning on heading out to this thing. Anybody from the Barrie area want to carpool? I have a good 4x8 trailer and a Focus wagon. So, I could take one other guy, maybe two? Or, if somebody had a pickup and we used my trailer, we could get 4 guys out there.

Is my 2.1Gal tank going to have enough range for this thing? Are there fuel stops?

I take it a good riding jacket would be more approriate than MX gear?

Tires - MT21's or equivalent would be just fine

Fuel - a couple places for gas. If you can get more than 100kms to a tank you are fine.

Clothes - a lot of backroading usually, dress for cold and peel off as necessary.

Hmmm... I have no clue on the range on my bike. Anybody know? Stock tank WR250? Somebody last night said that guys on WR's have done this. Did they have stock tank?

A Yamaha WR250 should be easily able to get 100+kms per tank without trying.

The route is not finalised yet, neeeds to be ridden yet to see if it is OK. However it should be just over 200km, about 90km to the gas stop at Bethany.

The route goes north from there in a loop and if needed you can nip back in to top up on the way back as we just miss the same gas stop by about 3km.

It's pretty easy going so you should make it easy, however if not, just carry a syphon tube with you or an empty litre water bottle and you can always scrounge some from the few "super tankers" that will be along (it's always good to have a friend with a KLR or and LC4 Adventure!).

No one will leave you (unless you are a complete ...!!!).

So do not be afraid about gas, just the wet slippy ruts that we usually get at this time of the year!

Good to see you out last night. John

    UPDATED APRIL 6, 2007

Here we go with some important details about our April 22 Skytop Bethany Ride!

    The Route

John Baxter is preparing our route this year and expects it to be in the 200 km range. This is a dual sport ride so we will using backroads, road allowances and minimal pavement. It's a nice mix and will keep all levels of riders entertained. The countyside that we'll be riding through is very scenic and in some parts quite hilly.

Because this is an early season ride you can expect plenty of mud and there still maybe ice in some spots. Knobby tires are recommended, even more so for less experienced riders. Gas and lunch will be available on the route. The first gas stop is expected to be around the 90 km mark.

The route will be suitable for all types of DS and off-road bikes, street plated of course. Course navigation will be by GPS. The route will be available for download at the start. Please bring your GPS patch cable to ensure we can download to your GPS! Don't worry if you don't have a GPS just follow some who does.

    Start Location/Map and Start Time

Our start location this year will be SKYTOP, an awesome private forest tract located about 20 km north of Whitby. Follow Lakeridge Rd north to Pine Gate Rd. The entrance to Skytop is about 1 km east on Pine Gate Rd.
A map should make it pretty easy to find, http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q ... 2,0.024376

Sign-in will be from 8:30 to 9:45 am. The riders meeting will be at 10:00 am. * NOTE, AS THE DEMO RIDE IS CANCELLED START TIME IS NOW ! HOUR EARLIER*

    Entry Fee and Memberships

This year there will be an entry fee of $10. Money raised from this ride will cover the cost of one Paid Duty Patrol (PDP) in the Ganaraska Forest. A PDP is two police officers with an ATV patrolling the forest and stopping all trail users to check for trail passes, license and insurance, and generally compliance with the policies of the forest. etc. The cost of a PDP is $400. Additional funds raised will be applied towards a PDP in Simcoe County Forests.

All participants will need to be ODSC members. ODSC Membership Director Neil Edmunds will be present to handle memberships during sign-in. ODSC Memberships are $40 per year and include an OFTR membership and a subscription to Inside Motorcycles.

    See everyone on the 22nd!
